NEWS

Educational reformers nationwide are citing SB 191, sponsored in the Colorado House by Representative Murray, as landmark legislation in changing the work culture of our schools.

“The majority of teachers in our classrooms are very effective, and they are my heroes,” Murray said. “There is an art AND science to good teaching, and the best teachers and principals know this. This bill is fair to our effective teachers, while allowing a path for helping those teachers who are missing the mark. For the first time in many years, however, districts will have an opportunity to release those teachers and principals who are not reaching student growth goals. This is especially important in some of our failing schools in high-poverty urban areas.”

Please see the article in the LA Times citing the nationwide impact of the bill.

As a resident of the 45th district for 25 of my 30 years in Colorado, I’m proud of my active participation in the community as both a private citizen and as an elected official. My motto in life is to “make a difference,” and to know that I’ve facilitated positive change at the end of each day.
