Majority House Caucus Chair Carole Murray continues to be an important voice for the residents she serves in southern Douglas County and Teller County. She fights against the increasing governmental encroachment on the area’s many small businesses, and tirelessly pursues legislation to improve our educational system. With her experience as the Douglas County Clerk and Recorder, she has brought common sense solutions to state bureaucracy.
Murray was a sponsor of the bill fundamentally changing the educational landscape in Colorado. It requires all teachers and principals to be evaluated using student performance as a measure. As a result of her work with the community college system, she was named the 2010 “Legislator of the Year” by Colorado Community Colleges. In 2011, she was successful in repealing the downloadable software tax, and criminalizing the use and sale of the dangerous designer drug known as “Spice.”
Murray has sponsored numerous election law and state information technology changes, being named “Legislator of the Year” in 2012 by the Colorado County Clerks’ Association. She has been consistently named as a “Guardian of Small Business” by the National Federation of Independent Businesses and a Champion of the 2nd Amendment by the NRA.
As a resident of the 45th district for 25 of my 30 years in Colorado, I’m proud of my active participation in the community as both a private citizen and as an elected official. My motto in life is to “make a difference,” and to know that I’ve facilitated positive change at the end of each day.
